Translating Video Call patient screens into other languages
This page shows patients how to change the language in the Video Call waiting and call screens
The patient view of the text on the healthdirect Video Call waiting screens and call screen can be translated into other languages locally in their browser. This feature is available in the Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Apple Safari browsers on the patient's device and involves the patient either right clicking to access the translate option or changing browser settings, depending on the browser and device being used.
In this example the patient has selected Arabic as the language in the translation option for their browser. This setting will persist in the browser for the waiting screens, as shown, and also in the call screen once the patient is joined.

Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browser on a computer
Patients using a Windows or MacOS computer for their Video Call, can easily translate the language for the text in the Video Call waiting screens and call screen.
Click on the clinic link provided for your appointment. You will see the Start A Video Call page. |

Right click (Control click on a Mac) on the page and select Translate to English. If you have a language other than English set for your browser it will say Translate to followed by the name of the set language.
OR
Go to the 3 vertical dots at the top right of your browser and select Translate. |

With both these options a box will open showing the current detected language. Click on the 3 dots in this box and select Choose another language. |

Click on the drop-down arrow and choose the desired language from the list (this image shows only a few of the available languages).
Then click on Translate to translate the text. |

The page will translate into the selected language. |

This translation will persist for the rest of the Video Call waiting screens (add your details and follow the prompts to Continue until you are waiting to be seen).
Once the call is joined by your health service provider, the selected language will appear in the call screen during the consultation. |

Safari on a MacOS computer
Patients using the Safari browser on a MacOS computer for their Video Call, can easily translate the language for the text in the Video Call waiting screens and call screen.

On your mobile device (iOS and Android)
To translate the language of the text on your phone, it depends on what kind of phone you have (iOS or Android). Here are the general steps for both:
For iPhone (iOS):
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap on General.
- Tap on Language & Region.
- Tap on iPhone Language and choose your preferred language.
- Tap Done, and your phone will change to the selected language.
For Android:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap on System.
- Tap on Languages & Input.
- Tap on Languages.
- Tap Add a Language and select your desired language.
- Drag the new language to the top of the list to set it as the default language.
